Replacing one or multiple missing teeth is a big decision, and one we know you don't take lightly. Because of that, we understand that you probably have a lot of questions about tooth replacement, your options, and what the procedure might be like. Today, we're going to discuss dental implants and what you can expect from the procedure and healing process. Let's get started!
What Is a Dental Implant?
Unlike any other option, a dental implant replaces both your tooth and its root, making it the gold standard in tooth replacement. The implant post is made of biocompatible titanium and surgically placed into your jawbone, where it heals and fuses with your bone, replacing your root.
After the healing period is completed, Dr. Pryor attaches a custom porcelain crown to your implant to restore aesthetics and function to your smile. Two to six dental implants can also support a bridge or denture that restores multiple missing teeth and even an entire arch.
What Can I Expect During My Dental Implant Procedure?
Most of our patients report to us that an implant placement procedure is less complicated than a tooth extraction. You will be numb throughout your procedure so that you won't feel a thing. Your implant is placed gently into your jawbone during surgery and then allowed to heal and integrate with it through a process called osseointegration. The healing process can take anywhere from three to six months, and Dr. Pryor monitors your progress throughout.
When your implant is fully healed, you'll return to Pryor Dental to have your custom restoration permanently placed.
